About the Role

As a Senior Visual Designer, you'll take the lead in defining and delivering a clear design concept and visual direction within projects. You work closely with other designers (both visual and UX) and developers to create a cohesive look and feel that aligns with the client's expectations and goals. Throughout the process, you work closely with the client to ensure alignment.

You start by first unraveling the brief and devising a strategy to drive our clients' and our vision for the project. From there, you define and create clear visual concepts and construct the story to present them to the client and stakeholders. Once aligned, you iterate and refine the designs step by step.

Motion, both in 2D and 3D, often plays an important role in bringing our experiences to live. So, during the design process you consider and explore motion as well. For example for interface transitions (as with Voices from the Frontlines) or animated data visualizations (as with our Ookla product suite visualizations).

In this role, you explore complex data and design interfaces for digital tools and experiences. Your core skill of transforming complex topics into engaging and memorable visual experiences that help users and strengthen the client brand is invaluable. Additionally, you are experienced at presenting your concepts and ideas in a clear and convincing manner, both to colleagues and to clients.

Requirements

We are looking for a senior-level Visual designer with 6+ years of experience in creating brand identities and digital products. You enjoy tackling complex topics and using visual and motion design to create appealing, unique, and user-friendly experiences. You are adept at both setting the visual concept and identity of a product, as well as designing the interface's visual details.

You know how to engage with clients and facilitate productive workshops. You can set the project vision and strategy, lead other designers, and work together to reach the goals. You have the analytical skills to unravel complex topics and decide on the best design solution for the users. You can communicate clearly how your vision and design fit the project, goals, and brand.

We expect you to be familiar with modern design software like Figma, Adobe CC (in particular Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects), or similar, and be able to learn new software quickly. You are ambitious with a growth mindset and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are comfortable speaking and writing in English, which is our primary language for communication and collaboration.

As a senior, you are a role model for the team, so we expect you to have some experience coaching and mentoring others (in a professional or other setting).

NICE TO HAVES:

It would be great (but not required) if you have experience in one or more of the following:

  • SCRUM or Agile projects;

  • Data visualization design and data;

  • Motion design experience;

  • 3D design, animation and rendering;

  • Creative coding (for example for generative motion systems and identity).
